Ensenada was kind to the family of Rigid Industries athletes last weekend, as Rigid-backed racers took two of the biggest class wins on offer in the Baja 500 on Saturday. Cayden MacCachren extended his winning streak in Pro UTV Forced Induction with a nearly seven-minute win in that class, while Justin Davis took over the unofficial Trophy Truck Spec points lead with a victory in his division.
Polaris Factory Racing has been the team to beat in Pro UTV FI ever since they first showed up last season, but MacCachren has been the hot hand ever since winning last year’s 1000-mile journey to close the season. He opened 2024 with a victory in San Felipe before taking the overall UTV victory this time out with a corrected time of 10:36:42. That was nearly seven minutes ahead of Rigid teammate Branden Sims, while fellow Polaris Factory Racing driver Craig Scanlon added a fourth place finish in class and Mint 400 winner Ronnie Anderson placed sixth.
In Trophy Truck Spec, Davis completed the more than 480-mile route in 10:06:09, more than 14 minutes clear of his closest in-class competition and well within the overall top 10. Combined with his runner-up finish in San Felipe, he’s taken the class points lead with two races remaining in the season. Fellow Rigid racer Jordan Brenthel added a fifth place class finish.
Rounding out the hardware across major classes was Christopher Polvoorde in the headline Trophy Truck class. Polvoorde built on his seventh place run in San Felipe with third place finishes in both his class and overall, well within striking distance of the overall win. Polvoorde now has four straight Trophy Truck and overall top 10s in the series.
MacCachren, Polvoorde, Davis, and the rest of the Rigid Industries squad will be back in Baja in September for 400 more miles of challenging desert action, before wrapping up their season with the biggest event of the year in November.
