Brock Heger continues to dominate the desert. The Polaris RZR Factory Racing driver opened the 2026 UTV season with an overall win at the King of the Hammers Desert Challenge, marking his third consecutive victory at one of off road racing’s toughest events. Behind the wheel of the RZR Pro R Factory, Heger delivered a flawless performance across the demanding 250 mile race in Johnson Valley.
Fresh off another strong performance at the Dakar Rally, Heger carried that momentum straight into King of the Hammers. After qualifying second, he quickly charged into the lead and controlled the race from start to finish. The wire to wire victory showcased the speed, durability, and suspension performance of the RZR Pro R Factory as Heger crossed the line more than nine minutes ahead of the second place UTV.
Polaris Places Six in the Top Ten
Heger’s win highlighted a dominant showing for Polaris and the RZR Pro R platform. Polaris racers secured six of the top ten overall UTV finishing positions, reinforcing the capability of the platform across the brutal desert terrain.
Chaden Minder delivered one of the standout performances of the race. After qualifying 22nd, Minder charged through the field in his grassroots backed RZR Pro R to claim a third place overall finish. His drive included battling wheel to wheel with factory backed teams and showcased the strength and reliability of the Pro R.
Sebastian Marques followed with a strong fourth place finish, while RZR Factory Racing teammate Ethan Groom secured fifth in his first full time appearance in the RZR Pro R Factory. Branden Sims added a ninth place finish, with Sierra Romo rounding out the top ten for Polaris.
A Dominant Wire to Wire Performance
The four lap Desert Challenge unfolded exactly as Heger planned. Starting near the front, he quickly took control of the race and never looked back. The RZR Pro R Factory handled the punishing terrain, deep whoops, and high speed desert sections with ease, allowing Heger to maintain a consistent pace throughout the event.
Behind him, the battle for the remaining podium positions intensified as drivers pushed through evolving race conditions. Cayden MacCachren delivered one of the most impressive drives of the day, charging from 30th on the grid to cross the line in an unofficial third. A post race review later determined he had missed a virtual checkpoint, moving him to 11th overall, but the drive still highlighted the performance of the platform.
Momentum Continues for RZR Factory Racing
With the Desert Challenge win secured, RZR Factory Racing continues its campaign at King of the Hammers. Heger and CJ Greaves are set to compete in the UTV Hammers Championship rock race, piloting modified Gen 1 RZR Pro R Factory machines tuned specifically for the brutal rock terrain, including the iconic Chocolate Thunder.
With three straight Desert Challenge wins and six drivers inside the top ten, Polaris and the RZR Pro R platform once again proved their dominance in one of off road racing’s toughest environments.
